FAQs

I’m a total beginner, will it be too advanced for me?

All beginners are welcome and we start each new group class with an introduction to ceramics and using clay

I have done ceramics before, can I still come to this class?

All levels of ceramicists are welcome to attend our classes and if you have ideas of your own which you would rather pursue than following the demonstration of the day then we encourage you to do so. We encourage your creativity and will support you

What do I need to bring?

Working with clay can be a bit messy so some people like to wear a loose long sleeve shirt, overalls or an apron to protect their clothing. For health and safety reasons, please make sure that you wear shoes which cover your toes (no flip flops or open-toed sandals please).

Please bring an old towel if you have one. A hand towel or a tea towel is fine or a bath towel is also suitable. If you don’t have one to spare in the name of art, I have towels you are welcome to use.

Do you have changing facilities?

We have bathrooms on the premises if you would like somewhere to change.

Do you offer wheel-throwing classes?

Unfortunately, at the moment I can’t offer wheel-throwing classes but this is something I am intending to offer in future so watch this space!

How do I pay a deposit and secure my place?

The deposit can be paid by Paypal (send to: sarahrblandceramics@gmail.com) cash or bank transfer (details available on request) at any time. Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Once your deposit is received, you will get a confirmation of your place (usually by email). I regret that places cannot be reserved or held without a deposit. If you are booking places for two or more people attending together it is recommended that deposits for all places are paid at the same time.

I have booked a place but I need to cancel

If you have a confirmed place but your plans change and you find that you cannot attend the workshop, please let me know as soon as possible. All cancellations more than seven days prior to the workshop date qualify for a full deposit refund.

If you need to cancel fewer than seven days prior to the workshop date, you will receive a credit voucher for your deposit, but only if I am able to find somebody else to fill your place. Please give as much notice as possible so that anyone on the cancellation list can be contacted and given an opportunity to attend the workshop.

Cancellation list:

If you miss out on a place in the workshop you would like to attend, please consider putting your name down on the cancellation list. Please provide your name, email address and contact phone number, and you will be contacted if any places free up. Priority is given to anyone who has paid their deposit.

Getting to the studio:

As we start with a studio orientation and demonstration, we wait for everyone to arrive prior to starting the workshop. If you find that you are running late or can’t make it on the day please call or text me on 07853 409 821. Please note that an email sent on the day of the workshop will not come to my attention until the following day.

Accessibility:

The studio is above street level but there is a ramp from the pavement that is very close to the front door of the studio. We have a disabled toilet. If you have any special needs or requirements please mention this at the time of booking.
